Steven completed his Diplomas with honour and attained countless outstanding achievements such as first in Championships, National Culture and Art Piano Award, first in Eisteddfods, and Encore nomination for Music. Apart from being a soloist, Steven is also an accomplished accompanist for school and AMEB exams.

Steven is patient, observant and extremely passionate in teaching. He aims to teach beyond content delivery; and envisages to inspire his students to enjoy music “inside out”. Through creative lesson planning, Steven integrates theory into practice; implement technology and games to engage learning; and teach with differentiation.

Whether it is Classical, Pop or Jazz, Steven has the knowledge and expertise to teach in all musical genres. Steven started his piano journey in Hong Kong, from which he has built his musical foundation and techniques with high level of discipline. It is Steven’s mission to teach with the right techniques to ensure a healthy and sustainable playing for each pianist; equipping students with the skills that can accomplish all repertoires. With a pair of exceptional and musical ears, Steven is also well-accomplished in pop and jazz, which enables him to elucidate various concepts and guide students of all levels through different genres besides teaching with a Classical methodology. In Steven’s lesson, you will learn to be an all-rounded musician through understanding technical, aural and theoretical skills of each musical piece; and most importantly, the creative thinking skill that is necessary in becoming a successful musician.

Jean Ogoy - Piano Teacher | Pianist

Jean holds a patient and care quality and believes that the development of intrinsic passion and love towards music is key to success in music learning. Whilst emphasising the importance of fundamental techniques and music theory, Jean incorporates creative lesson activities to engage and inspire students, providing tailored education methods to cater for individual learning needs. Jean provides piano lessons for any purpose, whether it be for examinations, competitions or leisure, and is on a mission to ensure students’ full understanding and appreciation to the music they play.

In performance, Jean has performed as a solo pianist in multiple musical theatres, venues includes The Sydney Recital Hall, Crown Theatre and Zenith Theatre. Since childhood, music has long been an essential part of her life, and she continues to pursuit the mastery of her performance career. She believes that music learning should not only focus on practical skills, but also individual independent thinking ability, self-cultivation ability as well as one’s expression of art.

Niki Goodarzi - Piano Teacher | Pianist | Accompanist

Piano Performance Diploma, BMus/LLB (USyd), AMEB Teaching Certificate (CTMusA)

Niki is a Classically trained pianist with over 6 years of piano teaching experience. She has developed into a passionate and patient instructor who strongly believes in the principle that success in music stems from resilience, endeavour and love of music. Her students ranges from 4 years old to adult students, where many has achieved outstanding results in AMEB exams, Eisteddfods and other performances.

In Niki’s lesson, she covers all aspects of music learning - piano techniques, music theory, musicology and creative work (composition). She believes that to become a successful musician all components of music learning should be experienced and engaged. Niki loves music and teaching from inside out. Her mission is to share the benefits and joy of music to students and grow together in their music journeys.

Apart from teaching, Niki was awarded in numerous competitions and regularly performs as both a soloist and chamber musician in Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, Zenith Theatre and many more. Through these, she has developed skills in a wide range of musical styles, musicianship and public performances. 

Academically, she has attained the role of School Prefect; early entry into two universities; and was a recipient of Academic Achievement Award from The University of Sydney. Niki is currently completing her studies of Law at The University of Sydney and Music at Sydney Conservatorium; busy teaching and passing on her passion to her fellow students; as well as enjoying occasional coaching for local Netball Clubs.

Russell Kang - Senior Piano Teacher | Pianist | UNSW Academic

Piano Performance Diploma, AMEB, B.CoDe.Hons (UNSW)

Mr Russell Kang is the co-founder of AK School of Music and is our executive piano teacher in West Pennant Hills studio. With more than ten years of teaching experiences, he has helped countless students achieving outstanding results in Eisteddfods (competitions), AMEB exams as well as HSC school exams. 

Russell likes to keep an open mind in teaching and believes that open communication is crucial for fostering effective learning. He guides his students explore different musical genres and styles to engage student learning and develop stronger love and passion for music. At the same time, he emphasises the importance of excellent technical, aural and theoretical skills; developing his students into all-rounded musicians.

Starting at the age of 5, Russell has been Classically trained for both piano and flute (minor) under Hana J Ahn (AMEB Examiner) and Dr Christine Logan (Chief Examiner of AMEB) . He has performed in various public occasions such as in bands, orchestra, Sydney Opera House, Sydney Recital Hall, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, charity events and many more. Russell is passionate in music and has incredible skills for a diversity of music genres. He is now teaching as an academic at UNSW, and enjoys his busy home-studio teaching and performing on the side.

Amy Kang - Head of School | Pianist | AMEB Examiner

MMus, BMus.Hons, BEd(Sec), LMusA, AMusA

Miss Amy Kang is a Pianist of Western Sydney Symphony Orchestra and a highly qualified Music Educator with over 15 years of experience in teaching piano and examining. After graduating from B.Mus (Honours) and B.Ed (Secondary) with STGA Scholarship under Ms Hana J Ahn (AMEB Examiner) at UNSW, she was soon awarded with both a CSP and a full scholarship for Master of Music Performance at Sydney Conservatorium of Music, mentored by Dr Stephanie McCallum, Dr Christine Logan (Chief Examiner of AMEB) and Kevin Hunt.

As a Pianist, Amy has given a number of recitals for solo items, chamber music as well as symphonies. Venues include Sydney Conservatorium Recital Hall, UNSW John Clancy Auditorium, Sydney Town Hall, The Star Sydney, Shangri-La Hotel, Hilton Hotel, Four Seasons Hotel and many more.

Aside from performing, Amy has developed a strong passion in teaching. She worked at Turramurra High School and Hunters Hill High School, and is now a music teacher, the official piano tutor and accompanist at Chatswood High School. She has also adjudicated in a number of international eisteddfods and given masterclasses both locally and internationally.

With her all rounded knowledge and experiences from performances and education, Amy is well regarded for her holistic approach of teaching in integrating technical and theoretical elements to develop and inspire student excellence in music. Her unceasing passion and exceptional teaching skills have been reflected in her students' outstanding results in AMEB, HSC music and eisteddfods, from which some have successfully become professional musicians themselves.
